Noki4,
Glove liners are just lighter gloves that you would put on underneath other gloves. When I lived in an area that had snowy winters I saw all kinds of ‘glove liners’ available at all kinds of stores. So now when I’m at CVS or Walgreen’s and see the big bucket of lightweight knitted gloves or $3 or 5 for $10 I am reminded that these are a…[Read more] -

Dear gosiatracz6,
Your willingness to share and reach out shows to me that you are a great caregiver. Each of us who lives with pain has to acknowledge and understand the uniqueness of our own pain. We also have to take into account how our own pain affects the people around us. My experience since my teen years is that my pain will never fully…[Read more]

Welcome Shadowbox!
You are so right about how we delude ourselves into thinking that we are “holding it together” when in fact we may be shutting everyone else out. I’ve been thru that cycle and now I try to keep moving forward with joy. I go farther on the good days than on the bad days and always HOPE for more good days. Figuring out the myriad…[Read more] -

FredFriend replied to the topic Being a caregiver when you live with pain in the forum Caregivers 9 years, 1 month ago
A couple of months ago, I spent 4 weeks sitting with a dear friend while she was in the hospital. Everyday I was there for 7 to 12 hours depending on the schedules of other friends and family who were rotating in to make sure that she was never alone. It felt good to be of service. It felt good to help my dear friend whom I’ve loved for decades.…[Read more]

I used to enjoy going to church to be with the people. The sense of community and seeing familiar faces. Thinking back on it I believe that the pews were too uncomfortable to sit there for a full hour. Sometimes I would leave because the church was so full and nobody would give up their seat for this person with an invisible disability.
I feel…[Read more]

There is lots of buzz around right now for people that enjoy coloring in coloring books as a way to distract from pain.
I’m a doodler who tends to color outside of the lines. What counts as art therapy?
I think that collage or stacking small stones in the garden also count as art therapy. Some of my garden creations may not last long, but they…[Read more]

Gloves! Glove liners inside gloves. With the weather getting colder lately I’ve brought out the stash of gloves and piled them up in a cute basket so that they are handy for use inside and outside of the house.
Three weeks of wearing gloves on the morning walks with the dog and my fingernails are growing out nice and strong. Probably because I’ve…[Read more]

Wow, Dee, that crisis sounds scary. I have endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain and related GI issues.
ARD sounds horrible and far worse than the endometriosis adhesions and scarring that I’ve dealt with that connect/constrict some of my organs.
I’m so happy that you have found TPC where you will be able to speak freely and find support of others…[Read more]

I updated my Deep Breathing technique six weeks ago to a 7-5-8 rhythm and my sleep has improved. Also my resting heart rate (according to my Fitbit Charge HR) has gone down by 6 ticks.
For decades I have been using deep breathing techniques to calm my response to pain. Just a basic breathe in for a count of five, hold for a count of three and…[Read more]

People who know my story of living with chronic pain since childhood often ask how I cope and how do I keep going. The answer is simple. I learn as much as I can all of the time. I research, ask questions and am always on the lookout for things that give me information about pain, any kind of pain and any kind of pain condition.

Wow, the things I’ve learned lately. In recent years I’ve heard murmurs of and seen a few mentions of pre-emptive pain management for surgical patients. One example is when the dentist gives you instructions to take something 1 hour before your appointment to have a tooth pulled. Last month I was visiting a friend in the hospital after she had a…[Read more]

Oh how I love to find new tips and tricks for adjusting recipes to be gluten free and dairy free. Distraction is my favorite pain coping technique. I too use TV in that category for and it is stuff I’ve recorded or access through a streaming option like NetFlix. My big challenge this week is to refrain from binge watching Season 3 of Orange Is The New Black. To avoid getting hypnotized by the box, I try to limit my watching to lunchtime, meal…[Read more]
