  • I have recently finished carving a wax model that will be cast into a sterling silver pin. As I sit looking at pictures of it I am struck by several thoughts. First is amazement at the carving techniques I learned. That got me thinking of the other things I’ve learned in the last year. Yes I know my mind wanders. I’ve learned about boats in…[Read more]

  • Uncle Ernie has left. I don’t like it when he comes to visit. Bd doesn’t spend as much time with me and he smokes cigarettes. But he’s gone and things are starting to settle down. Bd says there won’t be any more visitors for a while.
For now I’m glad the cold weather has left. I like sitting in the sun on top of the bimini. From up there…[Read more]

  • The weather has been nice this week though a little cool with a north wind. I spent a lot of the week sleeping and reading. it’s nice to have the boat to myself and Ms. Kitty agrees. I have ordered new carving tools. They should be in by Monday. I have one more piece designed and ready to carve and two more in the design phase. It’s been a lot of…[Read more]

  • Last week was a busy time. I spoke to my landlord and he is going to put in a repeater so I can have internet access aboard Lonoh. I carved a wax pendant model. It is a whale’s tale and will be cast in silver. I wanted to finish that because the person that wanted it came to visit for a few days. He was able to see and approve the model before…[Read more]

  • The last month of computer issues has been frustratingly hard. On the other hand I’ve learned and my life is better for having the crud that I really didn’t need thrown at me.
    for now
take care of each other and have a gentle day

  • FINALLY bd got his computer fixed. I told him not to mess with it but he didn’t listen. Oh well he’s old and befuddled so I let things slide. The shrimp boats have been going out again. The little boat across from us has been cleaning their last catch at the dock early in the morning. They pull out the shrimp and throw the “junk” small fish…[Read more]

  • Finally I’m back. The lost month is another victim of the learning curve. In an attempt to get internet onboard the Lonoh I “broke” my computer. The trip it took to the “dr.’s” did not go as I had hoped. They re-installed my operating system and it works so I’ll have to go with that. As frustrating as the process has been I’ve learned a lot and am…[Read more]

Ms. Kitty and I have been living aboard for a year now. Not once have I wished to be back in N. Carolina. Though I have no concept of how long I may be able to live aboard, I feel incredibly lucky to be here now. Life aboard is as easy as I could have anywhere. With the continued help of my dock-mates I will be Ok for a good…[Read more]

  • Simple questions; hard answers
    or
How many spoons do you have?
People stop and say “Hi How are you? What have you been doing?”. Those are questions I ask myself. The easy answers are “OK or Working on it” and “doing some writing and carving”. The rest you have to overlook because it’s just background “stuff”.
    Unfortunately that “stuff”…[Read more]

  • Level 9 pain is just before you pass out. Passing out is how you know it’s a 10. When faced with a life of pain the trick is to take the fear away. Make a level 9+ pain just another day at the rodeo.
For me the key lies in being able to step outside my body, in effect taking my mind and going to play in a different sandbox or world. The…[Read more]

  • It was great to meet Ruthie and her husband yesterday. I truly liked Paul and enjoyed visiting with them both. The weather has been nice and that made things so much easier. If Ms. Kitty and I are going to have company it’s nice that we can provide a pretty sunset. It’s always hard to meet people even if it’s people that you’ve know for years.…[Read more]

  • It does make sense Noki. It would be very easy to sucked down into the depths of all that has been lost. There are several kinds of loss. One is the loss of things I can no longer accomplish. I need to acknowledge that a year ago I could have easily done the fiberglass repairs on my dinghy but this year it is beyond me. It is important to try and…[Read more]

  • The weather is warming and winter is loosing her grip. I have ordered an antenna that will hopefully let me sign in from aboard Lonoh. It will be here in a few weeks.
There have been changes on the dock. A new boat with a live aboard came and went. I didn’t even get a chance to growl at him. A boat that was here when I moved in has been sold and…[Read more]

  • RAINBOWS!! The rainbows must have followed the red bug from N. Carolina. I’m so excited to see them again. They come in the afternoon and dance all around the cabin; so many it’s hard to keep track of them all.
The other cats on the dock are starting to understand that “Lonoh” is MY boat. Still I have to be on guard all the time or we’ll…[Read more]

  • It’s been cold here but bd finally turned on the heat. Until now he has depended on me to curl up with him to keep him warm. The electric heater is nice. This morning it was 35 outside but the cabin was almost comfy at 73. I asked bd to try and get a picture of my new red bug so I can share. He is slow and technically challenged but I’ll keep…[Read more]

  • “New Year’s”
I don’t party for New Year’s. I don’t make resolutions. For me New Year’s is a time to look back, reflect, assess goals; and try to adjust both the goals and the paths to them. Although I have made list of goals in the past, this is the first time I’ve tried to keep written track of the review process itself. I think seeing it in…[Read more]

  • The bayou is protected enough that waves can’t build. The wind pushes Lonoh against her dock lines and they act like shock absorbers. I originally was unsure how the movement of the boat would affect my pain levels. It turns out that the motion is soothing.
have a gentle day and take care of each other

  • Noki:
Thank you for posting my picture. It was very thoughtful of you. I wish bd had sent you a more flattering pic. How he got me with my tounge stuck out I have no idea. Sometimes I think he has no sense at all. You can’t imagine the indignities he puts me through. The other night the water was almost over the dock. When bd got off the boat…[Read more]

  • After several days of rain the weather cleared for Christmas. For the last few days the days have been mild and sunny. Mentally I’m ready to go physically I’m ready for a nap. I took advantage of the sun to do as much washing as I could. I also spread my bedding out on deck to air in the sun. The seven pillows get stuffy jammed in the v-berth…[Read more]
